Organ impersonation revives two lives

HCMC - Behind the noble gestures of organ donors, there are revived lives, expressing profound humanistic meaning.

After a month of kidney transplantation, the two patients, Ms. B.K.L (Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City) and Mr. H.T (Ca Mau City), have both fully recovered and been discharged from the hospital.

They were the ones who received the organs from Mr. C.G.C (34 years old). Mr. C.G.C passed away from brain death on March 1, 2025.

The success of this kidney transplant is the result of a combination of the received person's steel spirit and the high-skills of the medical team in Ho Chi Minh City.

Gia Dinh People's Hospital is the first hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to perform organ transplants from brain-dead donors, marking an important step forward in the field of organ transplantation in Vietnam.

Previously, Mr. C's other organs were also donated to patients in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and Hue.

A month after the transplant, Ms. L and Mr. T were able to function on their own, kidney function recovered well, the Serum creatinine index returned to normal, with no signs of transplant discharge.

Their creatinine excretion rate has improved significantly, their ability to excrete urine stably, proving that the transplanted kidneys have fully adapted to their bodies.

On the morning of March 31, Ms. L and Mr. T were discharged from the hospital back to normal life.

Ms. B.K.L, with teary eyes, could not hide her gratitude: "Thanks to the dedication of the team of doctors and the noble actions of the organs, I have the opportunity to live healthy.I will always remember and grateful to the person who gave me a new life."

Mr. H.T also shared his joy: Getting healthy kidneys is a miracle.I will take good care of my health to be worthy of this gift.

Previously, both Ms. L and Mr. T had end-stage kidney failure and had to have dialysis three times a week, causing pain and suffering.

A phone call from Gia Dinh People's Hospital in early March brought them a miracle when it announced that there were two kidneys from an organ donor who had died from brain death.Tests showed that their indicators were completely consistent, and just one day later, both had successful kidney transplants.

Dr. Mai Phan Tuong Anh - Deputy Director of Gia Dinh People's Hospital - said: "This kidney transplant marks an important step forward in the hospital's expertise, opening up new life opportunities for patients and affirming the effective coordination between medical units. We hope to further develop the organ transplant field, bringing more life opportunities to patients".

Mr. C.G.C passed away after a serious traffic accident, leading to brain death.Although his family is in pain at losing him, they decided to donate his organs, including his heart, liver and kidneys, to save the lives of other patients.

This act of kindness not only shows courage but also contributes to spreading the humanistic spirit of organ donation in Vietnam.

The successful implementation of two kidney transplants from brain-dead donors not only opens up new opportunities for patients with kidney failure but also affirms the capacity and importance of medical units in developing organ transplant techniques in Vietnam.
