A flock of desert crabs covered the sky of Gurgaon - the satellite city of New Delhi on June 27, forcing the Indian capital government to issue a high alert warning.
pilots at Delhi International Airport, near Gurugram - home to some of the world's leading corporations - are required to take additional precautions when taking off and landing because of the locust.
The crow crow flooded into the city at 11:30 a.m. local time - Atul Kapur, founder of a social enterprise in Gurgaon, told CNN. After 15 minutes, thousands of locust trees made landfall on the rooftops and roofs before being swept away by strong winds.
The last time Kapur saw the locust army in the city was at least 40 years ago, he said. When we were young, we used to call them tiddis and we would scare them with loud noises, Mr. Kapur, 56, told CNN.
Labor and Development Minister Gopal Rai shared his advice on Twitter that all officials in New Delhi are advised to "be highly vigilant" and increase efforts to curb the migration epidemic.
Staff will be deployed to help guide people and villagers on how to chase locust, such as burning firecrackers, making a loud noise with drums, or making loudspeakers.
This year's locust epidemic in India has been one of the worst in decades. Officials have used specialized vehicles, fire trucks and helicopters to spray pesticides in at least seven densely populated states in the North, Central and western regions of the country.
