Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami expressed his deep condolences, saying that he had never felt so ashamed in his life after the Ukrainian plane tragedy.
Speaking at the Iranian parliamentary session on January 12, General Salami said that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has no other goal or wish than to " Sacrifice the security, welfare and peace of the Iranian people".
"I swore on my child's life... I wish I were on that crashed plane and burned with my loved ones instead of witnessing this tragedy," RT quoted Salami as saying.
Flight 752 of Ukraine International Airlines was mistaken for an enemy cruise missile, so the Iranian army shot down.
The military never sought to conceal the incident and immediately reported it to the authorities, but the information was not immediately disclosed, as it awaited an internal investigation, according to Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Of the 176 people killed in the tragedy, about 147 were Iranian - including dozens of students of Iranian-Canarian nationality.
