Expanding the investigation into the death of the youngest son
On the morning of April 6, speaking to the press, Colonel Nguyen Ha Lai - Deputy Director, Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province - affirmed: "All documents and evidence collected by the investigation agency have proven that Ms. To Thi Ty Na (44 years old, residing in Quarter 3, Ha Lam Town, Thang Binh District) was the one who caused the death of Nguyen Van Hoang (born in 2017), her biological son".
According to the records, on the evening of January 2, 2023, Hoang was found dead in a position of leaning his face into a water bar in the restroom. At that time, Thang Binh District Police investigated but could not determine the specific cause, so the case was temporarily suspended.
However, after the Ministry of Public Security directed to review the suspension cases, the dossier was transferred to the provincial level to continue handling. Through the process of collecting evidence and struggle, the investigating agency concluded that Na Ty Na murdered her son, with the purpose of profiteering from life insurance contracts.
Not only stopping at the case of Hoang, the investigation agency is also continuing to clarify the death of Nguyen Van Hieu (born in 2019) - the youngest son of Mrs. Ty Na - that occurred in May 2021, also with the same detail as "falling into a bucket of water".
Colonel Nguyen Ha Lai said: "We are expanding the investigation into the death of the child before, to clarify the nature of the incident. When there is an official conclusion, more information will be provided to the press".
Relatives shocked, neighbors angry
Returning to the neighborhood where Ms. Ty Na's family lived, many relatives and neighbors were still shocked when hearing the news of the investigation conclusion.
An unnamed relative living near Mrs. Na's house angrily said: "We were shocked. At first, I thought it was a heartbreaking accident. Who would have thought such a cruel thing? I can't believe a mother can take advantage of her own child for money."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Tam - the biological sister of the two children who died was the first person to report to the police after the children's deaths. She choked up and said: "I once doubted Hoang's death, but I didn't dare believe it. Now everything is so clear, I just hope the law will handle it strictly so that my nephew can feel secure".
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hai - Head of Quarter 3 (Ha Lam Town, Thang Binh District) shared: "Ba Na lives a closed life, rarely talking to people in the neighborhood. But everyone knows about her passion for gambling. Now that we have heard such a news, everyone is upset. No other mother would be so cold to her children.
The case of a mother being identified as killing her child for insurance benefits has shocked public opinion and raised many questions about the work of supervising insurance payments, as well as social responsibility in detecting and preventing inhumane acts early.
Quang Nam Provincial Police said they are continuing to clarify related insurance contracts, the total amount of payment and the motive for the crime of defendant To Thi Ty Na.
