CNA reported that Bangladesh is a country prone to flooding, with a third of the poor affected, officials have warned of a prolonged crisis in the worst flooding in recent years.
"The flood has lasted for at least 20 days. And it is likely to continue for the next 10 days due to heavy rains in Bangladesh and India," AFP quoted Udoy Raihan, Deputy Director of Bangladesh's Flood Warning and Forecasting Center, as saying.
The annual rainy season in Bangladesh is important, helping to supplement water supply, but also causing devastation across large-scale densely populated areas, causing widespread death and damage.
At least 81 people have died in Bangladesh, mostly from drowning, and nearly three million people have been hit by natural disasters as their homes and communities have been flooded, officials said.
In the rural town of Srinagar, outside the capital Dhaka, many villagers have to evacuate to safety while others sleep on boats or rafts made from banana stumps tied together with ropes to watch flooded houses.
We have not seen a terrible flood like this year, since the last time in 1998, said Sheikh Moslem, a 66-year-old resident.
sufia Begum, 40, said the flood rose all the way up her neck and was worried about her two cows as they were the family's only source of income.
