The woman infected with COVID-19 was identified as Lu, discharged from the hospital on the afternoon of February 13 at the Zhejiang branch of Zhejiang University Satellite Hospital No. 1, in Hangzhou, eastern China.

She was transferred to this hospital from a lower-level hospital and was taken to a special care unit due to severe symptoms and old age, the hospital in Hangzhou reported on social media.

The old lady's condition improved after being treated with a series of viral treatments, including oxygen therapy.

The woman was discharged from the hospital to return to a lower-level hospital in her hometown of Ninh Ba for treatment after 2 tests for nucleic acid showed negative results and a CT scan of her lungs showed positive results, the hospital said.

Dr. Sheng Jifang - head of the hospital's Infectious Diseases Department said that the old lady was infected with the virus from one of her daughters. The old lady's daughter was infected with COVID-19 after a meeting with friends. Currently, the couple's daughters are still being treated in isolation at local hospitals in Ninh Ba.

Mr. Liang Tingbo - Secretary of the Party Committee of the hospital treating elderly people for Ms. Lu mentioned the challenges in the treatment of elderly patients.

According to Liang, a group of health experts have continuously treated Ms. Lu to ensure her condition did not worsen in the first 48 hours. The patient had mild high blood pressure, but she still reacted positively throughout the treatment process and recovered quickly, he said.
