The Su-30 fighter fell in a forest in the Tver region, central Russia, on September 22, after being accidentally shot down by another plane during the same training session - TASS quoted a source in the Tver provincial emergency agency as saying on September 23.
Both pilots were given escape seats and rescued. Currently in good health, the $50 million fighter jet was destroyed.
According to RT, initial findings suggest that the Su-30 fighter may have been accidentally fired by a Su-35 fighter during air training. The Su-35 had its missiles removed before the training, but failed to remove ammunition from the aircraft's artillery pieces.
Kommersant Business Newspaper provided more details, reporting that the Su-30 was hit by an automatic artillery shell fired by its modern sister - the Su-35 multi-purpose fighter jet. The bullet is believed to have hit the rear of the Su-30 fighter jet.
The Su-30 is a multi-functional 4++ generation fighter, helping the Russian military carry out air and ground combat missions in all weather conditions.
