According to research published in Neotropical Biodiversity, the new frog species is called Pristimantis ledzeppelin or Led Zeppelin. They have red eyes and yellow, brown, black, orange skin. As an adult, this frog reaches 2.4cm for men and 3.6cm for children.
Researchers say the newly discovered frog is closest related to Pristimantis muscosus, which lives in the center of Cordillera, northern Peru. However, it can be distinguished by mouth, skin color, and some other characteristics such as uneven color spots on the groin and lower surface of the back limbs.
Researchers say that currently, only three Led Zeppelin specimens have been found, including two male and one female. All specimens were found on plant carpets around streams in the forest, in canopy from 1.7m-3m above the water surface.
In the stomach of one of the samples, researchers found the remains of beetles, ant, snails and snails. In addition, they are collected with other amphibians, such as Chimerella mariaelenae, Pristimantis quaquaversus, Pristimantis prolatus and Pristimantis galdi.
Researchers added that, due to the unique characteristics of the Cordillera del Condor region, the newly discovered species may only be found in this area. Although this frog species is completely new to science, they may be endangered no matter where they are.
"Cordillera del Condor is one of the most severely threatened ecological regions in the world, as it is part of the Andes. Researchers also note that the region will face threats from agricultural expansion, mining and climate change.
