Manichi said that as of 10:00 a.m. on October 9 (local time), Typhoon Chan-hom - the 14th typhoon of the year - was located about 270 km south-southwest of Ashizuri Cape on Shikoku Island and was gradually moving northeast. The storm has winds of 126km/h near the center. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) forecasts that winds may increase to 180km/h.
Accordingly, the JMA warned people to be on guard against high waves, strong winds, landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and rising river levels as the storm approaches.
On October 10, the storm is expected to hit southern Kyushu, Shikoku, Kinki, Tokai and the Izu Islands in southern Tokyo.
The JMA warned that the typhoon will be accompanied by extremely large amounts of force and thunderstorms in the western and eastern Japan in the Pacific Ocean. At 6:00 a.m. on October 10 (local time), rainfall is forecast in Kinki and Tokai, Shikoku, Izu Islands and Kanto-Koshin region at 40 cm, 30 cm, 20 cm and 13 cm respectively.
