China's Foreign Ministry announced sanctions against US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her family after her visit to Taiwan.

The Morning China Post (SCMP), Bloomberg, Washington Post... reported that on August 5, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the imposition of sanctions on US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her direct family members after she visited Taiwan on August 2-3.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Ms. Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan seriously violates China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and seriously violates the "One China" principle.

Ms. Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on the evening of August 2 and met with Taiwanese officials, including Taiwanese leader Thai Anh Van and Deputy Director of the Taiwan Institute of Legislation Thai Ky Xuong. Ms. Pelosi left Taiwan on the afternoon of August 3 for South Korea.

The Speaker of the US House of Representatives is on a trip to Asia, including stops in Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. Pelosi's stop in Taiwan was not listed in her trip to Asia, but was discussed for weeks before the trip. On August 5, Ms. Pelosi visited Japan.

Previously, on August 2, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement about Ms. Pelosi's visit to Taiwan - Xinhua News Agency reported.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the visit to Taiwan by the US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi affected the political foundation of China-US relations, seriously violating the "One China" principle and the provisions of the three China-US Joint Statutes, violating China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Declaration emphasizes that the right way to resolve the relationship between two major countries such as the US and China must be on the basis of "mutual respect, coexistence in peace, no confrontation and co-operation in victory".
