Located in Thai Son village, Phuc Son commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh, Thuong Thai Son temple is the only temple in Ninh Binh built to worship the Lao princess named Nho Hoa.
According to historical documents, princess Nho Hoa is the daughter of King Van Tuong. During the reign of King Le Thanh Tong (1460-1497), Prince Nho Hoa was sent by his father to travel with elephant riders to help our country train the herd of war elephants. When the training was completed, princess Nho Hoa returned to her hometown.
On the way back to the country, when passing this land (Thai Son village, Phuc Son commune, Nho Quan district today) unfortunately the princess was ill and died. Knowing the news, the Le dynasty gave the funeral and buried the princess here, then reported to the Lao court. Upon receiving the news, the Lao King gave the person who brought the princess's portrait to worship himself.
In order to express his gratitude to the merits of the princess, the Vietnamese court has built a princess temple in Son Lai commune, now Phuc Son commune, Nho Quan district, Ninh Binh province. The relics of Thuong Temple worshiped the princess with many valuable artifacts such as: 9 ordinations of the Nguyen Dynasty (the oldest ordained and held were ordained in 1846).
In 2007, the Thuong Temple and Ha Temple relics in Thai Son village were ranked as provincial-level historical relics by the Ninh Binh Provincial People's Committee. By 2023, the People's Committee of Ninh Binh province will prepare a dossier to propose the State to rank it as a national relic.
Currently, on the 3rd of the 3rd lunar month every year, the Management Board of the Thuong Temple and the people of Thai Son village all hold a New Year's Eve Ceremony to commemorate the Miss Flower Lotus with many meaningful programs and activities.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ninh Binh province said that the Lao Prince Temple is a special historical and cultural relic that demonstrates the solidarity between the two peoples of Vietnam and Laos. The relic has always been cared for, protected, and restored by the local government and people, attracting a large number of visitors every year.
The relic has been renovated several times, however, the scale and landscape area are not suitable for promoting the important value of the relic in expressing the international friendship between Vietnam and Laos, contributing to the socio-economic development of the locality.
