Green transportation - the foundation for a green economy

HẠO THIÊN |

Faced with serious pollution and climate change, developing green transportation is becoming an inevitable global trend. According to experts, this trend brings many positive benefits to the environment.

Green transportation creates a stepping stone for the green economy

Currently, in major cities in Vietnam, the trend of using green means of transport such as electric trains, electric cars and electric buses is increasing significantly. The metro lines attract a large number of people thanks to time saving, safety, zero emissions and reasonable costs. At the same time, buses and bicycles are also recommended to reduce smoke, dust and traffic congestion.

Not only helping to reduce urban traffic pressure, green vehicles also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, improving air quality and protecting public health.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An - Director of the Institute of Natural Resources, Environment and Community Development, emissions from fossil fuel vehicles are one of the main causes of air pollution and climate change. Therefore, switching to green vehicles is an effective solution to minimize negative impacts on the environment.

Recognizing the benefits of using public transport, more and more people are choosing buses, trains, bicycles or walking. Ms. Hoang Tam (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) shared: I often go to work by electric bus. It is both clean and environmentally friendly, while saving costs and avoiding dust and stress.

Associate Professor, Dr. Bui Thi An also emphasized: Developing green transport not only protects the environment but also promotes a green economy. Green transportation creates jobs in the electric vehicle, renewable energy and smart infrastructure industries, contributing to sustainable GDP growth. At the same time, this trend helps attract investment, promote technological innovation and enhance international competitiveness.

The need for companionship of the whole society

The transition to a green economy not only helps to minimize negative impacts on the environment but also opens up new growth momentum, promoting industries such as renewable energy, clean technology - areas that are increasingly playing a key role.

However, according to Dr. Khuong Kim Tao - former Deputy Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee, it is necessary to emphasize the essential role of green transport in the energy transition process and implementing Vietnam's commitment to reduce emissions.

The shift is clearly happening as major cities in Vietnam are stepping up plans to develop electric buses, install charging stations and set a goal of completely converting public transport to electricity by 2030. This is an important milestone in efforts to improve traffic quality and urban air, said Mr. Tao.

In parallel with support policies, the Ministry of Construction is implementing research and plans to expand the inter-provincial and inner-city electric bus system, in order to complete the environmentally friendly public transport network. Mr. Tao said that Vietnam needs to learn from international experience to build policies suitable to domestic socio-economic conditions.

Former Deputy Chief of the Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee also emphasized that switching to green traffic is not only the task of the Government but also the common responsibility of the whole society. "With the companion of people, businesses and organizations, Vietnam will gradually achieve positive results on the sustainable development journey," Mr. Tao affirmed.

Discussing this issue, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thuy - traffic expert (former Director - Editor-in-Chief of GTVT Publishing House) emphasized that green transformation is a global responsibility.

“Green conversion is an opportunity for Vietnam to break out, promote green economy, improve the quality of life and affirm its position in the international arena. Developing green economy also creates a strong motivation for technological innovation, attracting investment and improving the competitiveness of the economy. Strong, ”Mr. Thuy emphasized.
