Firefighters fighting the fire in Brooklyn, New York, USA, discovered cash worth up to $1 million as the packages began to fall on their heads.
According to CBS New York, the first firefighters in New York found up to $1 million in cash while trying to extinguish the fire last week.
According to the source, firefighters arrived at a house at around 2am on September 24 to extinguish the fire on the first floor. The house is located on East 57th Street and Avenue L in Brooklyn.
However, to reach the fire, firefighters had to go through the ceiling. That was when the cash packages wrapped in silver papers and plastic bags began to fall from above, according to the New York Post.
A source from the New York City Fire Department said the money "continued to fall out".
"The money is divided into episodes. It is not like a solid brick. The money kept falling down, the source said.
According to The New York Post, the hidden amount could be worth about $1 million, but the actual value has not been determined. The woman living in this house could receive it from her late husband's life insurance contract - The New York Post reported.
According to CBS New York, the money was not burned down in the fire.
One person was taken to a local hospital and authorities opened an investigation into the fire.
