As of March 25, through the review results from 50 localities and 4 road management areas, it shows that the entire road network has more than 5,200 traffic light intersection clusters.
Of which, more than 3,400 clusters have been handed over to the traffic police. Through the review, 586 clusters of lights with problems were discovered, nearly 140 clusters have been handled.
Regarding the cause of the problem of traffic lights, the Vietnam Road Administration said that due to the impact of sun, rain, wind, storms and weather factors, green and red lights operate intermittently and unstably; the power supply system is damaged, including broken cabinets, damaged old parts or batteries, leading to weak light signals; the location of the light pole is unreasonable and obscured.
Regarding the road sign system, the whole country has nearly 7,000 inadequacy signs on the entire network; of which, more than 4,386 signs have been processed, and there are still nearly 2,600 unprocessed inadequacy signs.
By the end of March, there were still 13 provinces and cities that had not submitted reports. In many areas, there are still unreasonable signs and traffic lights, causing inconvenience to traffic participants.
Regarding this content, on April 7, the Government Office announced that it had just issued Document No. 2838/VPCP-CN conveying the opinion of Central Party Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha on continuing to review and handle shortcomings and inadequacies in road traffic organization.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Construction, the Ministry of Public Security and the People's Committees of provinces and centrally run cities to continue reviewing and thoroughly handling the shortcomings and problems of traffic lighting systems, traffic signs and other shortcomings on roads to ensure convenience and no difficulties for traffic participants in accordance with the provisions of law; to be completed in April 2025.
In Hanoi, the Department of Construction said that the maintenance of traffic lights is coordinated by the Maintenance Board with the Traffic Control Center (Hanoi City Police) and related units to regularly inspect and promptly adjust the light phase at inadequate locations. The total number of repaired and replaced traffic lights is more than 1,200 sets.
This year, the city's functional units will continue to review and develop a list of traffic light Butts in the city that need to be repaired and upgraded. It is expected that in 2025, 505 new rear-wheel lights will be replaced.
Similarly, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Department of Transport has requested units and localities to conduct a general review and on-site inspection to promptly detect and handle shortcomings in the system of signs, traffic lights, licenses and arrange parking lots, parking lots, etc., causing traffic congestion.
In Nghe An, on April 6, Vinh City People's Committee reported to the Provincial People's Committee, Provincial Police, Department of Construction, Provincial Traffic Safety Committee and Road Management Area II on the list of intersections with traffic light clusters in operation.
Vinh City plans to spend about 7 billion VND to repair and renovate many unstable traffic light clusters.
