At the session of the UNESCO Executive Council held on April 10 in Paris (France), the Collections of musician Hoang Van, Vietnam were inscribed in the list of World Documentary Heritage.
The collection of musician Hoang Van along with 74 records from other countries were selected from 119 submissions for the 2024 - 2025 cycle, after 2 rounds of evaluation and appraisal by experts in the International Advisory Committee of the World-MoW Program.
Rich in genres and forms of music and profound content, the Collections of musician Hoang Van have met many important criteria of UNESCO, especially historical significance and global value.
Hoang Van's works demonstrate the profound changes in Vietnamese society during that time, especially the role of women and vulnerable classes.
The collection of musician Hoang Van is relatively complete and intact, including more than 700 musical works from 1951 to 2010, preserved under many different materials including redists, general collectors, distributors, films, photos, audio files, prints, tapes, discs, digital newsfiles, etc.
The collection is a source of reference for cultural and social research in the post-colonial context and makes an important contribution to the research of the history of Vietnamese and world music.
Currently, the Collection has been preserved at the National Archives Center III, the State archives and documentation Department, the Ministry of Home Affairs of Vietnam and the multilingual website https://hoangvan.org, allowing the public and scholars to easily access it.
Since musician Hoang Van passed away in 2018, the two children of musician Le Phi Phi and music theory researcher, Dr. Le Y Linh have worked together to collect, collect statistics, systematize, and restore documents to create a personal collection of musicians and have nominated them for the UNESCO World Memories Program.
According to Dr. Vu Thi Minh Huong, Vice Chairman of MOWCAP, Experts of the International Consulting Committee of the World Memory Program: “The enrollment of the collection of musician Hoang Van will be a wake -up bell about the storage of music materials not only in Vietnam, but also in the region and around the world. It contributes to raising the awareness of society on the conservation of materials that contribute to the nation's memories, musicians, musicians as well as artists, musicians as well as artists, musicians, musicians as well as artists and artists as well as musicians, musician Si, writer, poet ... This is one of the goals of UNESCO's world memory program. "
This is the 4th World Documentary Heritage of Vietnam along with the Nguyen Dynasty Mongals (2009), the Doctor Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam 2011 and the Nguyen Dynasty Chau (2017).
Along with 7 Documentary Heritage Sites of the Asia-Pacific region, Vietnam has now reached 11 Documentary Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO.
The UNESCO World Documentary Heritage Site Ceremony for the Hoang Van, Vietnam Musician Collection is expected to be held in July 2025 on the occasion of the musician's 95th birthday in Hanoi.
