Affected but not confused
When the United States announced that the general tax rate for Vietnam 46% of production fluctuations in the fisheries industry in Ca Mau appeared. According to the Department of Agriculture, the Head of Ca Mau Province, a number of shrimp purchasing businesses are adjusting the price of raw shrimp from the ponds. Shrimp prices have decreased, in only 2 days 4 and 5.4, whiteleg shrimp prices were recorded in the market in the province decreased by over 10,000 VND/kg by size.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Ca Mau Province, the 46% tax rate has just been declared by the United States, resulting in an export turnover to the US market. However, the level of influence depends on the business strategy of each business. Due to the initial agreement, the customer is subject to tax rates or the business is subject to tax rates.
In general, currently, businesses do not dare to bid or sign for sale to US customers, some containers are still on ships transported without knowing how to handle them (waiting for the tax rate to be finalized). Some businesses said that US customers such as Mazzetta, Blue Sea, Limson, ... have requested all companies in Vietnam to temporarily suspend sales.

The current situation in some places, shrimp farmers, especially those raised in the form of intensive farming and super intensive farming in Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces, are worried, leading to massive shrimp harvests. This risks leading to overload and exceeding the capacity of processing factories, further forcing businesses to reduce the purchase price of input shrimp.
According to the analysis of the functional industry of Ca Mau province, seafood export turnover - mainly shrimp - to the US market in 2023 was 70.98 million USD (accounting for 5.91% of the province's exports); In 2024: 76.78 million USD (accounting for 6.07% of the province's exports). Even in the first quarter of 2025, the proportion of shrimp exports to the United States was at 6.84 million USD (accounting for 3.74% of the province's exports). Therefore, the level of influence of Ca Mau shrimp before the tax rate has not been officially only about 6%, the whole country is about 19%. This is not a large number, so it will not affect the shrimp industry, because there are still other potential markets.
Calm to overcome difficulties
Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su recommends: “At this time, shrimp farmers must be very calm, absolutely not bewildered, continue to closely monitor the situation of tax fluctuations. The most important thing is to stabilize the production situation, should not harvest early, harvest hasters, do not sell off lead to market disturbance. Quality to improve competitiveness against this difficult situation. Fisheries processing and exporting businesses are cautious and consider the reduction of raw shrimp purchasing prices, due to adversely affecting the production situation of people and businesses.

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province Luu Hoang Ly also advised purchasing enterprises and shrimp farmers not to harvest intensively.
